Ensuring Compliance with All Accessibility Requirements

Portable Wheelchair RampsIf you have a public building, you already know it needs to comply with all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates. Failure to do so could lead to significant fines, as well as the threat for potential legal action. That’s the last thing you need, so make sure your facility not only complies with the ADA, but all other state and local requirements as well.

REDD Team experts are extremely familiar with the ADA, so you can rest assured your ramps will meet all accessibility guidelines. We’ve provided a wide range of organizations with wheelchair ramps, including school districts, retail operations, governmental agencies and many others. Not only are our ramps very easy to install, we can also build them to your specific requirements. If you don’t need a custom-built ramp, we have plenty of standard sizes to choose from.

In most instances, all public buildings are required to have ramps at all exits and entrances. If a person wanting to visit your building has a mobility challenge, and that person can only access your building in one location, that could be a major issue for your company.

There are a lot of complexities regarding the ADA as well as other governmental accessibility mandates. For example, the ADA has different mandates for different types of facilities. The requirements for rec centers are different than those for playgrounds. The requirements for marinas are different from venues that host sporting events.

But regardless how complex the ADA mandates that govern your specific facility may be, the professionals with REDD Team will be here to help you sort them out. If you need a ramp as well as stairs and walkways, we’ll have you covered.

Specific ADA Requirements

Trying to decipher all the specific ADA requirements that may affect your facility could be like trying to digest an encyclopedia in one setting. There are a lot of specifics to try and remember, regardless of what type of accessibility system you’re thinking of having installed. These are just a few that cover wheelchair ramps.

  • Your wheelchair ramps have to include handrails if it rises more than 6 inches off of the ground. They have to extend at least a foot from where the ramp ends, and they have to be no less than 34, and not more than 38 inches high. REDD Team ramps feature smooth, continuous handrails that are always safe to touch, no matter how extreme the temperatures may get.
  • The ramp can’t sit more than 30 inches from the ground, and has to be a minimum of 36 inches wide.
  • The landing can’t be any less than 5 feet long, and has to match the width of the widest portion of the ramp.

This is just a small sample of the many ADA requirements that portable wheelchair ramps must meet. Let REDD Team ensure your ramps will be compliant. Learn more by contacting us online or calling 800-648-3696.
