Every part of a construction site must comply with OSHA standards, and the construction office stairs at your site are no exception. Your construction office will require stairs to help people get in and out of this mobile building. Since the office will have a doorway a few feet off the ground due to it being a mobile structure, you’ll need OSHA code-compliant construction office stairs that are safe for everyone to use.
What Are the General Standards?
OSHA has multiple requirements for construction sites to use when getting office stairs ready:
- The risers can be up to 9.5 inches high. The risers must also have a consistent height throughout the entire staircase.
- The treads must be at least 9.5 inches deep.
- The stairs must be at least 22 inches wide between the railings.
- The stairs will require an angle of 30 to 50 degrees.
- Straight leading edges will appear on the nosing for the steps.
- Railings will appear on the sides of the stairs. The rails should be about 42 inches high, although a three-inch clearance is acceptable.
- A railing should appear in the middle of the stairs if they are wide enough. The rail should be as high as the other rails around the body.
- The landing at the top should be at least 30 inches deep and as wide as the stairs. A longer or wider landing can work if desired. The landing should also have a railing that matches up with the rails on the sides of the stairs.
- There should be at least 22 inches of door clearance on the top landing. The clearance is measured between the end of the landing and the arc of the door swing.
- A yellow color is necessary for the handrails and guardrails. Yellow is easier for people to see in different conditions.
- The overall design should also support at least a thousand pounds of weight.
How Do We Build Your Steps?
We use all those OSHA standards when building your construction office steps at REDD Team. We will review your current worksite situation and determine a stair setup that meets all OSHA guidelines.
After we finish designing and building your steps, we’ll ship all the parts for your steps to your site. You will receive all the items necessary for installation, so you won’t require additional tools for the job.
You can then assemble and install your steps at your office. Since we use lightweight aluminum materials, you won’t risk anything being too unwieldy to carry or use. Aluminum can also handle several times its weight, so it will remain strong enough for your needs.
It’s also easy to take apart your steps when you need to move your office structure. You can take the entire layout apart, or you can only remove the items that connect the body to your office. No matter which choice you pick, you’ll find it easy to handle all the materials that come with your steps.
