Properties across Rhode Island must provide accessible routes and entrances that comply with the Rhode Island State Building Code. REDD Team is one of the leading aluminum wheelchair ramp manufacturers serving Rhode Island’s public, commercial, and industrial facilities. Our ADA-compliant ramp systems are engineered from structural aluminum for corrosion resistance in coastal environments and are configured to meet the applicable ADA Standards and ICC A117.1 criteria.

Aluminum Wheelchair Ramp Manufacturers Rhode Island

We provide fast, clean installation at occupied sites across Providence, Warwick, Cranston, and surrounding RI communities. Our modular components, slip-resistant walking surfaces, and continuous handrails are designed to meet ADA and state requirements while minimizing downtime.

For projects that also require workforce access, REDD Team supplies complementary OSHA aluminum stair systems to create a unified, compliant access solution. Our aluminum wheelchair ramps provide reliable accessibility with minimal maintenance and long service life.

ADA-Compliant Wheelchair Ramp Systems

The Universal Wheelchair Ramp System provides compliant, secure building access with modular components that reconfigure as site needs change. Smooth, continuous handrails and slip-resistant walking surfaces support safe use; field welding is not required, and typical assemblies are completed rapidly to minimize downtime at occupied facilities. When paired with the Universal Stair System, the ramp creates a complete access solution for mixed pedestrian traffic.

Built For RI Coastal Performance

Rhode Island’s coastal climate makes corrosion resistance and low maintenance essential. REDD Team access systems are fabricated from 6000-series aluminum (with 6061-T6 for structural members) to provide strength without the rust, rot, or repainting associated with other materials, which makes them ideal for year-round Atlantic exposure and freeze–thaw cycles common to the area.

A Proper Slope (Rhode Island)

Rhode Island adopts the ICC codes with state amendments, using ICC A117.1 and the ADA Standards for the technical ramp criteria.

For new work, wheelchair ramps must not exceed a 1:12 running slope (8.33%). In practical terms, a 6-inch rise requires a 72-inch (6 × 12) run. Where space is limited in existing facilities, the ADA permits short, steeper runs: up to 1:10 where the rise is 6 inches or less, and up to 1:8 where the rise is 3 inches or less. Slopes steeper than 1:8 are not permitted.

Suitable Landings

Level landings are required at the top and bottom of each ramp run. Landings must be at least 60 inches long and at least as wide as the ramp. Where a ramp changes direction, provide an intermediate landing at least 60 inches by 60 inches clear.

Ramp runs are also limited to a maximum of 30 inches of rise per run, which typically creates resting landings on longer assemblies. Landings exposed to weather must be designed to prevent water accumulation.

The Right Handrails

Handrails are required on both sides of ramps when the rise of a run exceeds 6 inches. The top of the gripping surface must be 34 to 38 inches above the ramp surface and remain consistent along the run.

The handrails must be continuous, extend at least 12 inches horizontally at the top and bottom of each run (with standard exceptions at switchbacks), return to a wall/guard, and maintain required graspability and clearances.

What About Width?

Provide a minimum clear width of 36 inches measured between the leading edges of handrails. Wider configurations are common for two-way travel; while a center handrail is not required by the ADA, many facilities add one on extra-wide ramps to help organize pedestrian flow. Always verify egress width with applicable life-safety codes when ramps are part of an exit route.

Rhode Island Residential Fee Waiver

For one- and two-family dwellings (R-4 use group), Rhode Island law prohibits municipalities from charging a building-permit fee for the construction or repair of an access ramp serving a person with a disability. This provision helps homeowners make accessibility improvements without added local permit costs.
