Section R311.8 of the 2020 Indiana Residential Code states that properties must include ramps for proper wheelchair access. A ramp will provide simple access to any building site, but it should also be planned according to where it fits Indiana state code. REDD Team respects the needs Indiana properties have when getting new ramps ready, and we’ll be there to meet them all. We are proud to be the best choice among aluminum wheelchair ramp manufacturers Indiana property owners can trust.
What Rules Does the State Have?
The 2020 Indiana Residential Code has multiple rules surrounding how an aluminum wheelchair ramp should work. Many of these rules are similar to what works in other states:
- The slope should be 1:12 at the most. This measurement means the ramp can go for twelve inches in length for every inch of rise. The builder should try and get as flat of a ramp as possible so long as it works with space considerations.
- The slope can go to 1:8 in spaces where a 1:12 slope can’t be met due to size restraints.
- All landings on the top and bottom parts of a ramp should be at least 36 inches long and as wide as the rest of the ramp.
- All ramps should be 36 inches wide or greater.
- Handrails are necessary for ramps, with these rails being about 34 to 38 inches off the ground. The rail must also have an outside diameter of at least 1-1/4 inches but not more than two inches. Non-circular handrails can have a perimeter from four inches to 6-1/4 inches.
- For cases where a ramp is next to a wall, there should be a handrail attached to the wall. The rail should be at least 1-1/2 inches away from the wall, providing enough room for a person to grip.
These rules are necessary for all Indiana ramps, as failing to adhere to them could result in fines and possible legal action. REDD Team will plan new ramps for your site that meet these standards.
Where Can You Get Your Ramp Installed?
REDD Team is also versatile, as we can help you build a ramp for whatever site requires help. We’re available to build ramps for many properties:
- You can order a ramp for personal use at a residential property. These ramps can work for any entry point into your home.
- Ramps for access to a school or worksite are also available. These ramps can be sized based on how high your entry point is. We can also work with newer and older properties.
- Indoor ramps are also ready for use. You can add a new ramp to go next to or over an already-existing stairwell.
You can consult us at REDD Team about what you require from your ramp, and we’ll prepare a solution that fits the standards you hold.
Ask us at REDD Team about how we can serve you with your distinct ramp needs. We are available by phone at 800-648-3696, or you can reach us at our website for assistance.
