- Aluminum has a natural coating that protects it from degradation due to corrosion or rust. The same can’t be said for steel. Unless steel is coated with very expensive materials, it will eventually degrade. When you’re talking about stairs, degradation can obviously be dangerous.
- You won’t have to worry about maintenance when you purchase stairs made of aluminum. With wood stairs, you’d have to apply finish at least once a year. If you don’t, then it will be prone to warping, splintering, and, eventually, rotting completely. Concrete also needs to be sealed. Otherwise it will crack and eventually be rendered useless.
