Leave Your Handicap Ramp ADA Compliance Concerns to Us

Aluminum Handicap RampIn 1990, Congress made the ADA into law. The purpose of the ADA is to make it as easy for physically challenged people to enter and exit public buildings as those who don’t face those challenges. REDD Team had designed and built ADA-compliant ramps for a wide range of applications. Our ramps are incredibly simple to install, can be build to your exact specifications, and will meet not only the requirements of the ADA, but all other local and state accessibility mandates.

While we can make sure your ramps are ADA-compliant, you’ll need to talk to one of your local building officials to make sure the rest of your facility meets ADA standards. In some instances, cities and counties have accessibility requirements that are different from those in the ADA.

In general, though, all buildings open to the public must have handicap ramps near entrances and exits. If someone with a mobility issue has to go all the way to the back of your building because there’s no ramp at the entrance, you could be in trouble. Not only will you be subject to fines for ADA violations, you could also be the target of a potentially expensive lawsuit.

But not only are there differences in regulatory requirements among different levels of government, there are also differences within the ADA itself. There are certain ADA requirements that apply to certain kinds of facilities. These include playgrounds, recreation centers, sports venues and even boat launches.

No matter how complicated the ADA requirements regarding wheelchair ramps may be, however, you can rest easy knowing that REDD Team has you covered. We have a deep understanding of the ADA, and we’ll tell you exactly what kind of ramp you need.

ADA Specifics

The ADA goes into great detail in a wide variety of areas. As you’d expect, wheelchair ramps are no exception. Here are just a few of the requirements you must follow.

  • The run of the ramp can’t have a rise higher than 30 inches, and must be at least 36 inches wide. There are certain exceptions to this rule, such as employee entrances.
  • The landing of the ramp has to be as wide as the widest portion of the run, and must be at least 5 feet long. If the landing is to be installed in a wet environment, it must be made in a way that it doesn’t allow water to accumulate.
  • Ramps must also have handrails if the rise is more than 6 inches. These handrails have to run at least 1 foot from the end of the ramp and have to be between 34 and 38 inches high.

A REDD Team aluminum handicap ramp will meet all these requirements and many others. Learn more by contacting us online or calling 800-648-3696.
