The Alloys Make the Difference

Aluminum Ramp With HandrailsThere are many companies that produce aluminum accessibility system components. But none of them use the incredible alloys we have at our disposal. These alloys give our aluminum products an incredible level of strength, and give them the ability to handle extremely heavy loads as a result. No matter what kind of physical challenges anyone who needs to access your building may face, they’ll be able to enter and exit your facility with total confidence.

The 6061-T6 alloy, for example, is a major contributor to the strength of our products. It makes our ramps extremely easy to install because it eliminates the need for field welding. Some ramps, such as those made of wood, steel and concrete, can take days to install. Ours, on the other hand, install in hours.

Even better, the 6061-T6 alloy is relatively inexpensive. As a result, we can offer ramps and other components at a very affordable price. Thanks to our relationship with Hydro, the world’s leader in aluminum extrusion, we have an immense supply of aluminum. That makes it possible to offer our products in an even more cost-effective manner.

All of our accessibility system components do a great job of conducting heat, so users can comfortably grasp the handrails no matter how high or low the temperatures may get. They won’t rust like steel, and they won’t warp like wood. You can count on all our products to perform day in and day out, year after year.

Aluminum vs. Wood

Without a doubt, wood is a beautiful, strong material. When it comes to using it for ramps or stairs, however, wood falls short when compared to aluminum. Here are just a few examples of why this is the case.

  • You can relocate aluminum ramps very quickly and easily if you ever need to do so. Wood doesn’t allow for fast, easy relocation or reconfiguration.
  • Aluminum requires very little to no maintenance of any kind. Wood, on the other hand, needs to be repainted and/or refinished on a regular basis.
  • Wood splits or rots when not treated. Aluminum will always remain strong and secure, and will always retain its shape.

Aluminum vs. Steel

You may assume steel will be a much more durable material than aluminum – a lot of people make the same assumption. But the truth is completely different. These are some of the areas in which aluminum is clearly superior.

  • Steel can become extremely slippery when wet, unless treated with very expensive materials. Aluminum naturally drains, staying safe and secure in the process. We also add slip-resistant coverings to our ramps and stairs.
  • Unlike steel, aluminum won’t corrode.
  • Steel has to be welded in the field, and steel joints can weaken. This, of course, can lead to a major safety hazard. Our aluminum products don’t have joints.
