Helping You With ADA Compliance

ADA Wheelchair Ramp RequirementsThe Americans With Disabilities Act is designed to ensure that all people, whether or not they face physical challenges, have the same access to public buildings. There are a lot of details within the ADA, as you might imagine. When it comes to wheelchair ramps, these are just some of the mandates your ramps must meet.

  • Handrail requirements – If a wheelchair ramp sits six inches or more off of the ground, it must also feature handrails. The handrails have to be as long as the ramp, with a space of 1.5 inches between the ramp and rails. In addition, the handrails can’t move when someone grips them – they have to be solidly attached to the ramp. REDD Team ramps come with continuous, smooth handrails that are not only sturdy, but also safe to the touch regardless of the outside temperature.
  • Ramp landings – The landings (the areas located at the bottom and top of the wheelchair ramp) have to be as wide as the ramp. Also, the landings have to be at least 5 feet by 5 feet. The ADA requires that landings used in wet areas have to be made of non-slip materials. Not only do our ramps meet all of these requirements, they exceed them. Aluminum does a fantastic job of draining water, regardless of how heavy a rainfall may be.
  • Slope and other requirements – For every foot a ramp runs, the slope of that ramp can’t exceed one inch. In some cases, there are exceptions. For example, if you plan to place your ramp in an area that doesn’t have a lot of space, there’s a chance the slope of your ramp could be steeper. We’ll make sure your ramp meets all ADA requirements.

There are, of course, many, many other requirements set by the ADA. There are also other accessibility mandates set by local and state governments as well. The experts at REDD Team are familiar with all accessibility requirements, and we’ll make sure you comply with all of them – no matter how stringent they may be.

You have enough on your plate already. Asking you to be an ADA compliance expert is probably too much. After all, who has the time to do the thorough research needed in order to know all ADA specifics? REDD Team experts have more than a quarter century of experience designing and manufacturing accessibility systems. We already know the ADA from top to bottom, as well as the accessibility mandates that pertain to your specific location.
